Was relaxing and not packed. Good place to rest after riding through the road to Hana.
Picturesque. The beach itself could use a clean up though. Too many tourists leaving behind their garbage. The local businesses and people make this place what it is. Don't speed through town though. The cops don't have much else to do than flag you down and chat. Great place to check out at least once.
My daughter and I spent the morning sunbathing and swimming. Just a great beach. This beach has black sand as well. Not as dark as the state park but it's black. There is a place to eat and change clothes. There are showers for rinsing sand. We were here early and pretty much had the beach to ourselves.
Some of the photos I've seen of this place make it look so charming. I guess it does if you don't stop to take a closer look. The ocean... No complaints. The little place that serves food in the main building and the public restrooms need some tlc, cleaning, and supplies. A depressed area from what we saw, but there is so much potential for it to be more.
The red sand beach contrasted with the dark and light blue water and the bright green trees and dark red cliffs was gorgeous. It was my favorite spot on the road to Hana. In fact, it is the most beautiful place I've been in Maui (I've traveled here twice for vacations).
